Meet the Winemaker: Wines by Sam

We’re thrilled to host an exclusive evening with Mark Hickin, one of the talented winemakers behind Wines by Sam. Mark has been with the family-owned winery since 2017 and brings a wealth of experience from both domestic and international winemaking regions. He studied Viticulture and Winemaking at the University of Adelaide, gaining experience in the Barossa Valley, Hunter Valley, and Burgundy in France. He also worked at Summerhill Pyramid Winery in Canada, where he helped craft Ice Wine, Method Traditional sparkling, and Kosher Wine.

Mark’s passion for cool climate wine styles, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, and Shiraz, is evident in his work at Wines by Sam. In 2018, he was awarded the Victorian Wine Show Scholarship, allowing him to travel to Alsace, France, to further study cool climate wine styles and viticultural methods. His diverse winemaking background has been invaluable in guiding wine styles at the winery, and his knowledge of both cool and warm viticultural regions shines through in every bottle.
